Tension inside Paris Saint-Germain over Luis Enrique's preferential treatment of Drew
Luis Enrique's treatment of young midfielder Drew Fernandez has sparked controversy at Paris Saint-Germain, with some first-team members believing he is receiving preferential treatment due to his agent Ivane Urrubal, who also represents the coach, according to French newspaper "L'Équipe".
L'Équipe reports concerns regarding the management of the 18-year-old player's file, especially when compared to Senny Mayulu and Quentin Ndour. The tension has also extended to the youth teams, as some players and coaches believe there are other promising talents who are not receiving enough opportunities.
Dru has moved from FC Barcelona to Paris Saint-Germain during the last winter transfer window for €8 million, causing discontent for Hans Flick, who had previously given him the chance to make his debut with the team. The German coach said at the time: "If anyone wants to play at Barcelona, they must live the club's colors 100%."
Luis Enrique has increasingly relied on the player this season, featuring him in five of seven rounds in the Ligue 1. He started the last two matches as a starter before being substituted in both before the 60th minute. He also played 90 minutes against Slovan Bratislava in the UEFA Champions League, in a match that ended with Paris Saint-Germain winning 6-1.
These developments come ahead of the match between Paris Saint-Germain and FC Barcelona on Tuesday at Parc des Princes, as part of the third round of the group stage in the UEFA Champions League.
