Wydad Casablanca held to a draw by Amal Tiznit in Casablanca
Wydad Casablanca settled for a 1-1 draw against their visitors Amal Tiznit in the match that took place on Sunday evening at the Mohammed V Sports Complex in Casablanca, as part of the fourth round of the Moroccan Professional League, allowing the Souss team to return with a valuable point from the heart of the economic capital.
Amal Tiznit entered the match with clear confidence, relying on quick counter-attacks to unsettle the home side's defense, and succeeded in threatening the goal of goalkeeper Rashid Ghanimi on several occasions. Meanwhile, Wydad Casablanca tried to impose its control over the course of the game and exploit the support of its fans to reach the opening goal.
Despite the exchanged attempts, the first half ended in a goalless draw, as both teams lacked attacking effectiveness. During this time, Youssef Al-Faqir, the goalkeeper of Amal Tiznit, shone by saving several Wydad Casablanca chances, keeping his net clean before the break.
With the start of the second half, referee Mohamed Jamalawi awarded a penalty to the visiting team after reviewing the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) due to a handball by defender Sallah Moussaddaq. Zakaria Salahli took the penalty successfully, giving Tiznit hope to take the lead in the 53rd minute.
Wydad Casablanca did not wait long to respond, as their players increased the pressure in search of an equaliser, which was achieved in the 62nd minute when forward Silveir Ganvola scored the equalising goal from a penalty, bringing the match back to square one.
In the closing minutes, both sides attempted to snatch a winning goal, but a lack of effectiveness in front of goal kept the score unchanged until the final whistle. Aml Tiznit earned an important point in their first season in the top division under the guidance of their coach Sallah Moussaddaq.
With this result, Wydad Casablanca have raised their tally to five points, occupying ninth place, while Amal Tiznit reached four points in eleventh place. This draw increases the pressure on the red team and their Portuguese coach Paulo Sérgio Brito, as they seek to regain balance and improve results in the upcoming rounds.
