Flick seeks revenge against Enrique in Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain clash
Hans Flick, the head coach of FC Barcelona, is looking to secure his first win over Luis Enrique, the coach of Paris Saint-Germain, when the two teams meet on Tuesday at Parc des Princes in the third round of the group stage of the UEFA Champions League.
Spanish newspaper "Mundo Deportivo" reported that Flick has faced Luis Enrique twice before, without achieving a victory, as he drew one match and lost the other, which adds extra importance to the upcoming encounter for the German coach.
The first encounter took place during the group stage of the FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar, when Hansi Flick was in charge of Germany and Luis Enrique was coaching Spain. The match ended in a 1-1 draw, with Álvaro Morata scoring the opening goal for Spain in the 62nd minute, before Niclas Füllkrug equalized for Germany seven minutes before the end of regular time.
In the second encounter, FC Barcelona faced Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Champions League last season, when Barcelona, led by Flick, met Paris Saint-Germain under the management of Luis Enrique.
FC Barcelona took the lead in the match with a goal from Ferran Torres, who currently plays with the French team, at the Montjuïc Stadium. However, Mayolo equalized for Paris in the 38th minute, before Gonçalo Ramos scored the winning goal in the dying moments, ending the match with a victory for the French team 2-1.
The upcoming clash is crucial for Flick as he seeks his first victory against the Paris Saint-Germain manager, as both teams are tied on six points in the UEFA Champions League. This makes a win an opportunity for FC Barcelona to take the lead, in addition to seeking redemption after last season's defeat.
