Chelsea plan unexpected double deal to sign Barcelona duo

Chelsea are targeting a move for Jules Koundé and Frenkie de Jong from FC Barcelona in the upcoming winter transfer window as part of their plan to strengthen their squad, according to TEAMtalk.

The site clarified that strengthening the defence is one of Chelsea's priorities under Xabi Alonso, who personally wishes to bring in Jules Koundé, 27, after the English club previously attempted to sign him in 2022, before he moved from Sevilla to FC Barcelona for £42 million.

The same source indicated that FC Barcelona has informed Jules Koundé's camp about the possibility of selling him in 2027, with the option of him leaving in January also being considered, given the uncertainty surrounding Malo Gusto's future with Chelsea.

Manchester City are interested in Frenkie de Jong, but the chances of completing the deal seem lower, as reports indicate that the Dutch player's recurring injuries have made English clubs more hesitant about signing him in January.

Meanwhile, Chelsea are looking to bolster their midfield following the sale of Enzo Fernández to Manchester City during the summer, with reports stating that Alex Scott, a Bournemouth player, is at the top of Alonso's priorities for this position, amid competition from Liverpool for his signature, after the player rejected several offers to renew his contract.
