Kai Rony, son of Manchester United legend Wayne Rony, suffered a painful defeat in his first appearance with the club's under-21 team, as the team fell to Nottingham Forest by a score of 3-2 on Friday in the Premier League 2.

The 16-year-old player came on as a substitute in the 78th minute with the score at 2-2, as Manchester United sought to snatch a late winner. However, Nottingham Forest managed to score a late winner through Shakur Samuel, giving his team all three points.

This loss marks Manchester United's first defeat in the Premier League this season, having started their campaign with three consecutive victories over Ipswich Town, Leicester, and Brentford, during which they scored 12 goals and conceded three.

Kai made his appearance with the Under-21 team less than a week after his first match with the Under-19 team, during a clash against Atlético in the UEFA Champions League, which ended in a three-goal defeat for Manchester United in the Spanish capital.

Kai has gradually progressed through the youth teams at the club, having played with the under-16 team last season before signing a two-year scholarship agreement last July that allows him to train and play full-time with the club. Reports suggest that the agreement could later turn into a three-year professional contract, with an annual salary of around £50,000, along with an annual signing bonus.

Wayne Rony has previously spoken about his son's potential during an appearance on "The Overlap" with his former Manchester United teammate Gary Neville, saying: "He has my physical build, but he will be taller than me, and he is a goalscorer, moving inside the box and sensing opportunities, and that is his style of play, so he is doing well."

When asked by Neville if his son has a chance to reach the level his father achieved, Rony replied: "I think it's still early, no one knows what will happen. I see he shows promising potential and good signs."
