Retegui's perfect penalty streak ends against Abha
Mateo Retegui, the forward for Al-Qadisiyah, has seen his perfect streak of penalty conversions in the Saudi Pro League come to an end after he missed a penalty against Abha in the 12th minute, marking his first failure in the competition.
Mateo Retegui did not wait long to overcome his setback, as he returned to score the opening goal for Al-Qadisiyah in the 30th minute, compensating for the missed penalty and contributing to his team's victory in the ninth round of the Saudi Pro League.
Italian striker Mateo Retegui successfully converted six consecutive penalties before facing Abha, missing none, until his successful streak ended in the last match.
Despite missing the penalty, Mateo Retegui remains one of the top penalty scorers for Al-Qadisiyah, having scored six goals from the spot in the competition since the 2009-2010 season, which is the highest tally among the team's players during that period.
Al-Qadisiyah secured a 2-1 victory, with Mohammed Abu Al-Shamat scoring the second goal in the 69th minute, while Jouri Al-Yamami netted Abha's only goal during stoppage time.
Al-Qadisiyah's victory takes them to 22 points, temporarily placing them at the top of the Saudi Pro League, benefiting from the postponement of several matches in the ninth round, including the clash between Al-Hilal and Al-Riyadh, as they await the completion of the postponed encounters.
