Warning for McTominay over move to Real Madrid amid contract renewal talks with Napoli

Scott McTominay, the Scottish midfielder of SSC Napoli, has received a warning regarding a transfer to Real Madrid, as negotiations have started for his contract renewal with the Italian club, which is looking to retain his services for as long as possible.

Scott McTominay, aged 29, has a contract with SSC Napoli that runs until the summer of 2028, having joined the team from Manchester United in the summer of 2024 for around £25 million. He has become one of the club's standout signings, having played a significant role in their Serie A title win during his first season, and he was awarded the Best Player in the competition for the 2024-2025 season.

Napoli's sporting director, Giovanni Manà, confirmed ongoing negotiations with the player, stating: "Scott has two years left on his contract, and he wants to stay, and we also want him to continue for as long as possible. There is also the financial aspect that needs to be agreed upon. We are working on that, and we will continue to work. We hope to find a solution that satisfies both parties. He is an important player for us, and perhaps the most important in the team, considering what he has achieved over the past two years."

European football expert Andy Brassell believes Real Madrid may not be the right destination for Scott McTominay, explaining that the player's best performances come when he has the freedom to move and advance offensively, which may be difficult to achieve with Jude Bellingham present.

He noted that moving to a team that places him in a defensive midfield position may not serve his potential, emphasizing that the player should consider leaving if he receives a better offer, but Real Madrid is not necessarily the ideal choice for him.
