Flick: Yamal delivered an excellent performance despite not scoring, and this is what we need to improve
Hans Flick, the head coach of FC Barcelona, praised the level that Lamine Yamal showed during the big win over Galatasaray, confirming that the player was influential in the team's goals, despite not scoring himself. He also pointed out the need to improve decision-making in the final third of the pitch.
In his statements after the match, Flick expressed his happiness with the match result, explaining that the team performed well in the first half as well, despite the opponent managing to score from their only chance.
Flick said about the victory: "We are very happy with the result, we played well in the first half too, they had one chance and scored from it, and we managed to come back in the score, which was very important."
The German coach talked about the aspects the team needs to develop in the UEFA Champions League, pointing out the importance of making better decisions in the final third of the pitch, especially given the difficulty of playing in the atmosphere at Galatasaray's stadium.
He added: "I think that when we play well in the UEFA Champions League, we don't make serious decisions in some situations during the final third of the pitch, we need to improve that, it wasn't easy in this stadium, in this atmosphere, but I am very happy."
Flick praised Lamine Yamal's performance, stating that his failure to score did not diminish his impact on the match, after he provided the final pass for two goals for FC Barcelona.
He said: "Lamine did not score today, but he provided the final pass for two goals, and his performance was excellent. He is an amazing player and very important for us."
Regarding the decision not to substitute Lamine Yamal, Barcelona's coach explained: "He is physically ready, he is an important player, and it is good to have him on the pitch."
