Real Madrid appeal Konaté's yellow card to avoid missing El Clásico
Real Madrid intend to file an appeal against the yellow card received by their French defender Konaté during the match against Villarreal, hoping to have it overturned and avoid the risk of him missing the Clasico.
According to the Spanish newspaper "Mundo Deportivo", Konaté received a yellow card in the 81st minute of the match that ended with Real Madrid beating Villarreal by a single goal. The player protested the referee's decision, insisting that he did not touch the opposing team’s player and therefore did not commit a foul worthy of a yellow card.
Real Madrid sees, after reviewing the match footage, that the contact did not occur or was extremely limited and not deserving of a yellow card. Therefore, the club is confident in the possibility of the appeal being accepted and the caution being overturned.
Ibrahima Konaté currently has four yellow cards, and he becomes at risk of a one-match suspension if he receives another warning against Sevilla, which would lead to his absence from the clásico. If the yellow card he received against Villarreal is cancelled, the French defender will avoid the risk of suspension due to accumulated warnings before the upcoming clash.
