Liverpool are considering signing a new right-back amid growing doubts about Dutchman Jeremie Frimpong, with Jules Koundé, the FC Barcelona defender, emerging as a potential option to strengthen the squad.

TEAMtalk has reported that Liverpool believe they can improve their options in this position, after concerns arose regarding Frimpong's ability to deliver the required level.

Frenpong's role has diminished this season, as Ronald Araujo has been given more opportunities at right-back, coinciding with Liverpool keeping three consecutive clean sheets in the Premier League before the international break. The report indicated that selling the player in 2027 will leave the club needing to sign a replacement.

Jules Koundé is attracting interest from the Fenway Sports Group, owners of Liverpool, as he is no longer a guaranteed starter at FC Barcelona under Hans Flick, who is giving Erik Garcia more confidence. The same source mentioned in September that the French defender is open to a move to the Premier League, with Chelsea also showing interest.

Liverpool are monitoring Malo Gusto's situation at Chelsea after attempting to sign him on loan during the recent transfer window, but Chelsea insisted on selling him permanently. However, his financial demands of £75 million prevented the deal from being completed, despite later reports suggesting he was willing to lower the asking price.
