Flick: Early goal gave us confidence, and that is the most important
Hans Flick, the head coach of FC Barcelona, emphasized the importance of the early goal in his team's 3-0 victory over Getafe in LaLiga, noting the difficulty of the match after the international break and praising the performance of several of his players, led by Anthony Gordon and Lamine Yamal.
In his post-match comments, Flick discussed how Barcelona handled Getafe's defense and the importance of having all players ready, as well as his approach to managing the physical loads of the team's stars during a busy fixture period.
Barcelona's coach said: "Scoring early was very important today, as it gave us confidence. The match wasn't easy after three weeks off; Getafe defend well and are one of the best teams in LaLiga defensively, but in the end, we controlled the game and the opponent."
He added: "Matches against Getafe are not easy, they are one of the best teams in LaLiga, and they defend very well. It is not easy to create chances against them. I am very happy to score in the first minute; it is not easy to come back after the break, which lasted three weeks. Many players have played matches with their national teams, and I am not happy about that; we need to manage these matters."
Speaking about Anthony Gordon's level, Flick said: "He is performing very well for me, even before he started scoring goals, we are happy with him, and that was evident with the national team as well, where he played with confidence and scored a goal."
He continued: "He gives us a lot, he is fast, he controls the ball well, he always gets to the difficult balls, he dribbles past defenders and creates chances."
Flick spoke about Lamine Yamal, stating: "He wanted to give everything he had. I asked him if he wanted me to substitute him, and he told me he didn't want that, as he loves playing."
He added: "We must manage the physical loads, but the first half was easier for him, and in the second half, he created more chances. I am happy with his situation; he is recovering well and undergoing treatments."
Speaking about Gerard Martin reaching his 100th match, Barcelona manager said: "He is a player with a great mentality, always wanting to improve. He is an amazing player, and I am very happy for him; it is great to watch him."
Flick concluded his statements by stressing the importance of having multiple good options in all positions, saying: "This is extremely important, I have two or three players in each position who are at a very good level, everyone wants to play, but the most important thing is not the coach or the player, but the team."
