VAR technology to be implemented from group stage in CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup
The CAF has announced the implementation of Video Assistant Referee (VAR) technology starting from the group stage of the CAF Champions League and the CAF Confederation Cup. This step comes to enhance refereeing fairness and reduce impactful errors in the knockout stages of the continental tournaments.
Samson Adamu, the acting secretary general of the Confederation of African Football, stated in media remarks that video technology will begin to appear during the group stage of both competitions, in a new step within the refereeing system of African tournaments.
Zamalek SC and Pyramids FC represent Egypt in the CAF Champions League, while Al Ahly FC and ZED compete in the CAF Confederation Cup.
In conclusion, African football fans, especially Egyptian supporters, are eagerly anticipating the positive impact of this technology on fairness in the game, amid great ambitions for the Egyptian quartet (Al Ahly FC, Zamalek SC, Pyramids FC, and Zed) to deliver strong performances and honor Egyptian football on the continental stage.
