Morocco drops to 7th in the world and remains top in Africa
Morocco has dropped to seventh in the latest FIFA World Ranking released today by the FIFA, after previously holding sixth place in the last official ranking dated July 20, despite increasing its points tally to 1805.34, compared to 1803.99 points in the previous ranking.
Despite losing a position in the global rankings, Morocco remains the top African team and the best Arab team in the classification, confirming its place among the elite national teams worldwide.
The Moroccan decline comes as the Portugal national team has moved up to fifth place with 1807.69 points, and the Brazil national team has climbed to sixth with 1806.51 points, benefiting from their recent results. This leaves Morocco in seventh place, just 1.17 points behind Brazil and 2.35 points behind Portugal.
Morocco finished sixth in the FIFA World Cup 2026 rankings with 1803.99 points after a historic leap following their quarter-final appearance in the tournament.
Morocco temporarily rose to fifth in the world rankings during the international break before losing that position again after drawing with Mali.
At the continental level, Morocco's national team has not seen any change in its position, remaining at the top of the African team rankings with a comfortable lead over its closest competitor, Senegal, which is ranked 18th in the world with 1648.84 points.
The African national team rankings have seen some changes behind Morocco, with Egypt coming in at 25th place globally with 1585.86 points, while Algeria occupies 28th place with 1574.77 points. Ivory Coast is in 29th place with 1569.32 points, while Nigeria has dropped to 30th place globally.
