SL Benfica makes strong presence in Portugal national team with nine players
SL Benfica has made a strong presence in the Portugal national team, with the number of players who graduated from its academy reaching nine in the current squad.
The list includes João Cancelo, Rúben Dias, Thomas Araújo, Nuno Tavares, João Neves, Bernardo Silva, João Félix, Gonçalo Ramos, and Samuel Soares, all of whom have passed through the SL Benfica academy, highlighting the strength of the Portuguese club in developing talent.
Hugo Oliveira pointed out in an opinion piece published by the Portuguese newspaper "A Bola" that this presence is not related to a single remarkable generation of players, but reflects SL Benfica's ongoing ability to produce talents capable of reaching the highest levels.
Former SL Benfica players were prominent in Portugal's latest victory over Norway, with João Cancelo scoring one of the goals for the national team, and Gonçalo Ramos adding another, while João Félix provided the assist for the winning goal.
