Famous Manchester United fan celebrates two years without a haircut

Manchester United fan Frank Elet, known on social media as "The United Strand", celebrated two full years without cutting his hair, after a challenge he started for fun turned into a story that caught the attention of football fans.

Elit began his challenge on October 5, 2024, when he vowed not to cut his hair until Manchester United achieves five consecutive victories, in an attempt to add some humor to a period when the team was struggling with inconsistent results.

As of October 5, 2026, the fan has completed 730 days without visiting the barber, while still waiting to meet the condition he set to end the challenge. During this time, his hair has become an essential part of his identity on social media, even reaching the point of being braided into long plaits.

Elit was not far from finishing the challenge earlier, as Manchester United reached four consecutive wins last February, but they drew 1-1 with West Ham in the fifth match, ending the streak and leaving the fan waiting for the haircut appointment.

Elit stated that he never expected the challenge to last this long, explaining that he started it as a way to bring some fun to the club's fans, before it turned into a journey that attracted widespread interest and gave him experiences he could never have imagined.

The challenge has persisted despite several coaches taking charge at Manchester United. Elite met coach Ruben Amorim last September, where he noted that the coach jokingly apologized upon seeing his long hair.

Despite two years passing, Elit is still holding on to his promise, affirming that he wishes for Manchester United to achieve five consecutive victories as soon as possible so he can finally return to the barber and end one of the longest challenges fans have faced related to the football team's results.
