Willian reveals behind-the-scenes of choosing Chelsea over Tottenham
Willian has revealed the behind-the-scenes of his surprising decision to turn down a move to Tottenham and instead choose to join Chelsea during the summer of 2013, in one of the most famous transfer stories in the Premier League.
Willian spoke about the crucial moment: "I woke up in the morning and said to myself: no, I don't want to go there," referring to Tottenham, despite having reached advanced stages in completing the deal with the London club.
The Brazilian player stated: "I respect the club, and I respect them a lot, but Chelsea was the best decision of my life," confirming that the arrival of Chelsea's offer at the last moment changed the course of the deal entirely.
Willian was already at Tottenham's training ground to complete his transfer from Russian club Anzhi, before receiving a call informing him of Chelsea's interest in signing him. He then decided to leave Tottenham's premises and head to finalize his move to the Blues.
Willian spent seven seasons with Chelsea, making 336 appearances and scoring 63 goals. During his time there, he won the Premier League twice, along with the UEFA Europa League, the FA Cup, and the League Cup.
