Van Hecke to miss Netherlands clash against Greece due to injury

The Netherlands have announced that defender Jan Paul van Hecke will miss the upcoming match against Greece, scheduled for Thursday in Thessaloniki, as he has been unable to recover from a foot injury sustained during the match against Serbia last Sunday.

Van Hecke attempted to participate in the Netherlands' final training session on Wednesday morning, but he had to leave early due to ongoing injury issues, deciding to return to his club Tottenham.

The Netherlands will not call up a replacement for Van Hekken, as they will travel to Thessaloniki with a squad of 23 players. The national team will conclude the international break with a match against Serbia next Sunday in Eindhoven.

Van Hecke is the sixth player to miss the Netherlands' original squad during the current break, following Donnyell Malen, Justin Kluivert, Brian Brobbey, Luuk de Jong, and Cody Gakpo. Meanwhile, Xavi Simons has rejoined the group after participating with the Netherlands U21 team.
