Botswana withdraws from bid to host Africa Cup of Nations 2028

Botswana has officially withdrawn from the joint bid with South Africa and Zimbabwe to host the Africa Cup of Nations 2028, as it was unable to meet the requirements set by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

The decision came after the Botswana government refused to provide the financial guarantees and economic commitments required to continue competing for hosting the tournament, which prevented the Botswana Football Association from submitting the final bid documents before the deadline set by CAF.

With Botswana's withdrawal, South Africa and Zimbabwe continue their joint bid to host the next edition of the Africa Cup of Nations, after the two countries successfully submitted the required documents within the specified deadlines.

The Confederation of African Football is set to evaluate the bid submitted by South Africa and Zimbabwe before making its final decision on which country will host the Africa Cup of Nations 2028.
