Frenkie de Jong's return to Barcelona training and his status for the clásico
Frenkie de Jong, FC Barcelona's midfielder, is nearing the final stage of conservative treatment to recover from a tear of the medial collateral ligament in his right knee, which he suffered during the FIFA World Cup.
According to "Mundo Deportivo", Frenkie de Jong is set to start training with players who have not joined their national teams on October 5, before joining the full group on October 8 after the return of the internationals.
However, Frenkie de Jong's return to team training does not mean he will participate directly in matches, as he is expected to need an additional two or three weeks of preparation before Hans Flick decides to include him.
Barcelona face a busy schedule after the international break, as they meet Getafe on October 10, then Galatasaray on October 13, Real Betis on October 17, and Paris Saint-Germain on October 20.
Barcelona will face Real Madrid in the Clasico on October 25, making Frenkie de Jong's participation before this match difficult, although he could be included in the squad for one of the matches.
The clash against Alavés on November 1 looks like the most realistic date for the player's return, especially with him having a full week to train with his teammates after the clásico. During this period, De Jong will work on regaining his strength and physical readiness after suffering an injury on June 16.
