Rafa Márquez clarifies his stance on imposing Barcelona's style on Mexico

Rafa Márquez, the new coach of the Mexico national team, confirmed he does not intend to impose FC Barcelona's style of play on "El Tri", emphasizing the need to adapt to the capabilities of the players available to him.

Marcelo Márquez will lead the Mexico national team in a friendly match against Colombia, marking his first appearance at the helm of the coaching staff.

Marquez said in a press conference: "From my perspective, as a coach now, I adapt to what I have, and it's not that I will impose a style of play. Naturally, since I was a player at FC Barcelona, who wouldn't want to play like FC Barcelona? But you don't have the necessary elements for that, so you have to adapt to what you have."

The Mexican coach noted that the short period of working with the national team requires him to maintain some aspects that were going well, with limited adjustments. He added: "We must be realistic about the way we have been going, and considering the time available for me to work with the team, we need to continue with the things that were working reasonably well."

Marquez has explained that his primary objectives are to improve various aspects of the national team's performance, starting from building play and advancing with the ball to finishing attacks, as well as developing defensive work and enhancing players' performances both individually and collectively.

The project is still in its early stages, emphasizing the importance of working with new generations and developing young players, which contributes to strengthening the Mexico national team's strength in the medium and long term. The current squad has an average age of around 25 years.
