Zamalek comments on Al Ahly's statement against Hossam Hassan

Ahmad Suleiman, a member of the Zamalek board, commented on the statement issued by Al Ahly against Hossam Hassan, the Egypt national team coach, following the latter's remarks about Mohamed El Shenawy, the Al Ahly goalkeeper.

Al Ahly have issued an official statement criticising certain remarks and positions related to Mohamed El Shenawy, affirming their rejection of what they consider to be an overstep against the team's captain and goalkeeper.

Suleiman stated in an interview on MBC Masr that Al Ahly's stance was not appropriate at this time, considering that the management of the Red Castle has changed its usual policy, as it has been customary within the club not to comment or issue statements condemning their players in the event of any issues during national team camps.

A member of Zamalek's board stated: "Al Ahly's statement against Hossam Hassan is unfortunate, and in my life, I have never seen Al Ahly issue a statement condemning one of its players in a situation against the national team, and there are many examples of this."

He continued, confirming: "Previous evidence confirms the emergence of multiple positions of Al Ahly players with the national team without the club taking any action or issuing a statement denouncing that. When one of the players refused to represent the national team, I did not find any public stance from Al Ahly's management to condemn him, which is something that has happened many times without any official reaction."

He added: "You can ask Essam El-Hadary about what happened during Coach Tardelli's time in 2005; there was a problem back then, and El-Hadary stated from inside the Al Ahly club (at the Tetch Stadium) that he would not join the national team again and would only play for Al Ahly. However, Al Ahly did not issue any statement regarding the matter."
