Saad Samir: We lost the support around the national team

Former Al Ahly FC star Saad Samir has criticized Egypt national team coach Hossam Hassan for his comments regarding Al Ahly FC goalkeeper Mohamed El Shenawy. Samir expressed his disappointment over Hassan's remarks, suggesting they were inappropriate and unnecessary.

Said Samir stated in his comments on "MBC Masr 2": "I see that we have lost a sense of public support around the national team, and the absence of that new spirit that we have not witnessed since the era of the golden generation."

He continued: "It was essential to build on that situation to strengthen the relationship with the clubs, the fans, the media, and the players, but all of this was destroyed during the press conference."

He continued his talk: "We should have discussed the Angola match in the press conference; the fans were eager to see the spirit and technical performance in the first match after the FIFA World Cup."

Egypt and Angola played to a goalless draw in their Africa Cup of Nations 2027 qualifying match on Friday evening.
