Liverpool monitor Tottenham defender as Van Dijk replacement

Liverpool are continuing to monitor Micky van de Ven, the Tottenham defender, as part of their plans to secure a potential replacement for Virgil van Dijk, who is approaching the final year of his contract.

CaughtOffside has reported that Micky van de Ven has attracted interest from Liverpool for some time, while Mick Brown, former chief scout at Manchester United, believes the Dutch defender possesses the required attributes, thanks to his speed, physical strength, and ability to play with his left foot.

Brown has stated to Football Insider that van de Ven fits Liverpool as a replacement for van Dijk, but he noted that Tottenham's struggles at the start of the season raise some concerns, despite the defender's clear talent.

The deal appears difficult given Tottenham's stance, as Micky van de Ven renewed his contract for five years in August, then became the team's captain in the 2026/2027 season, being considered one of the key elements of the club's project.

Micky van de Ven featured in 45 matches across all competitions last season, including 34 in the Premier League, bringing his total appearances for Tottenham to 96.

The report suggests that Micky van de Ven's speed and ability to play with his left foot suit Liverpool's style, but completing the deal may require a significant financial outlay and a change in the player's circumstances, given there is no clear pressure on Tottenham to sell.
