Asaad Al Eidani announces Basra will host Gulf 28

The governor of Basra and the head of the interim administrative body of Al Minaa, As'ad Al-Eidani, announced on Wednesday evening that they have reached a near-final agreement to host the Gulf Cup in its 28th edition.

Al-Aidani stated in press remarks that "Iraq has officially submitted a bid to host the Gulf Cup in its 28th edition in Basra," adding that he discussed the matter directly with the President of the Gulf Football Federation, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.

The governor of Basra added: "A near-final agreement has been reached between us and the president of the Gulf Federation to hold the next edition of the tournament in Basra, and the big news will be in the official announcement next Monday."

The governor confirmed Basra's full readiness to host this major Gulf event, stating: "Basra is completely ready to host the tournament, and there will be new and different creativity in the organization during the upcoming tournament that surpasses what happened in previous editions."

He indicated that he has another important meeting with the President of the Gulf Football Federation in the coming days to finalize the details regarding the hosting file officially.

It is worth mentioning that Basra successfully hosted the 25th edition of the Gulf Cup, which saw Iraq crowned champions for the fourth time in their history after defeating Oman in a dramatic final.
