Al-Aqidi injury spoils Green's joy after win over Kuwait

Nawaf Al-Aqidi, the goalkeeper of the Saudi national team, underwent an X-ray in Jeddah today, Thursday, to check on his injury sustained during the match against Kuwait in the opening of the Gulf Cup.

Nawaf Al-Aqidi fell to the ground in the 78th minute after coming out to deal with a cross following a free kick, leading to a stoppage in play for several minutes.

After about five minutes, the coaching staff led by Greek Georgios Donis was forced to substitute the goalkeeper, with Mohammed Al-Owais coming on to complete the remaining minutes against Kuwait.

Saudi Arabia benefited from a legal amendment that allows for an additional substitution in cases of suspected serious head injuries or concussions, making Nawaf Al-Aqidi's substitution the sixth for the Green Falcons during the match.

Nawaf Al-Aqidi's internal announcement of leaving due to 'suspected concussion' raised concerns among fans, before Donis confirmed after the match that the goalkeeper's condition had improved and there was no cause for concern.

Nawaf Al-Aqidi has eased concerns over his injury, stating he is fine after leaving the stadium facility. However, he was seen with his right arm in a sling and supported around his neck.

The Saudi national team is awaiting the results of the scans to determine Nawaf Al-Aqidi's readiness for the upcoming match against Oman, after the Green Falcons started the Gulf Cup 27 with a victory over Kuwait by one goal to nil, placing them at the top of Group A with three points.
