FC Barcelona sets condition for major deal in January

FC Barcelona is preparing to take advantage of the winter transfer market in January, as the club continues to operate under the 1:1 rule and has a limited positive margin in its salary cap.

According to "Sport", FC Barcelona may need to sell one of their players if they want to make a big signing during the winter, with a greater focus on strengthening their defense.

Xavi has successfully strengthened FC Barcelona's squad this summer, having nearly reshaped the attack, alongside signing Rodri and making progress on a future goalkeeper. However, the sporting management was unable to complete a deal for an additional striker of the level they were targeting, as they failed to secure Julián Álvarez, and they also did not succeed in signing a centre-back that Xavi considered a priority.

Diko had moved to sign Bastoni, but Flick halted the deal, preferring to direct investment towards attacking positions. With Araujo's loan to Liverpool, the club sees that signing a left-sided centre-back could be beneficial in the crucial stage of the season, especially with Christensen's injury.

FC Barcelona currently has a positive margin of around €3 million in their salary cap, which is not enough for a big signing. Therefore, the departure of one of the players who are not getting enough minutes is not ruled out, with Alejandro Balde and Frenkie de Jong among the names that will be monitored.

In contrast, FC Barcelona have backed away from the idea of signing a big striker, having shown good attacking levels, with expectations of improvement from Gabriel Jesus. The same source confirmed that the club will not move just to make a signing, but will only pursue a deal if the player can provide an immediate impact and become an important asset for the coming years.

Flick and Deco have not closed the door on any possibility, but no final decision has been made yet. FC Barcelona, if they want to make a big signing, needs to offload a key player to create the necessary space in the salary cap and free up a number for a new shirt.
