Safonov discusses his situation with Paris Saint-Germain

Russian goalkeeper Matvei Safonov has spoken about his current situation with Paris Saint-Germain, confirming that he does not consider his starting position to be guaranteed, despite becoming the first-choice keeper for the Parisian club in recent times.

Savinov has become Paris Saint-Germain's first-choice goalkeeper by the end of 2025, following the injury of Lucas Chevalier, before successfully maintaining his place in the starting lineup. He also celebrated winning the UEFA Champions League title for the second time in his career, this time as the first-choice goalkeeper.

Safonov stated during a media talk with the Russian national team, reported by "Championat": "No one is asking me about my future anymore. Nothing has changed for me. My goal was to work and prove myself, and that is exactly what I did. At Paris Saint-Germain, the competition is there every day, and that is exactly what I was doing."

He added: "I started this process last September, and in December I managed to get a chance to play. Now the situation has changed, and I am playing all the matches. My position and mental state have changed, but the confidence I had in myself a year ago helped me change everything."

The Russian goalkeeper concluded his statements by saying: "Now I am trying to prove in training that my efforts are not in vain, and I am competing with my teammates and with myself."
