Younis Mahmoud sends important messages to Iraq players ahead of Oman clash

Iraq Football Association President Younis Mahmoud has arrived in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, today to join the Iraq national team participating in the Gulf Cup 'Gulf 27'.

Younes Mahmoud's arrival provides a significant morale boost to the players just 24 hours before the opening match against Oman, as the striker made sure to be present with the team at this critical time in the tournament.

Upon arriving at the national team's accommodation, Younis Mahmoud held a closed meeting with the players and the coaching staff led by Graham Arnold, during which he shared some important advice and motivational messages for the players.

A source close to the delegation stated that Younis Mahmoud urged the players to put behind them their commendable participation in the FIFA World Cup 2026 and to focus entirely on the Gulf Cup, confirming to them that the Iraqi fans are expecting a fifth title that will restore the pride of the Lions of Mesopotamia in the Gulf tournaments.

Younis Mahmoud has assured the players that the federation has provided all the necessary resources for the national team's mission in Jeddah, starting with the purchase of 10,000 tickets to be distributed for free to the fans, and culminating in the preparation of all logistical conditions. All that remains is their role on the pitch.

He sent a special message to the young players participating for the first time in the national team shirt, urging them to seize the historic opportunity and not to be intimidated. He pointed out that he had previously been a standout player in past Gulf tournaments, and that the Gulf Championships always create stars.

He added: "You represent 45 million Iraqis, and every Iraqi dreams of joy. Play for this shirt and for the flag, and the fans will be your greatest support in the stands."

Younis Mahmoud concluded his remarks by affirming his complete confidence in the coaching staff and players, stressing that the current national team possesses a wonderful blend of experience and youth that is capable of competing for the title until the very last moment. He stated that he came to Jeddah not for tourism but to bring the cup back to Baghdad.
