Edouard Mendy: We have won the Africa Cup twice and the final is complete

Former Senegalese goalkeeper Edouard Mendy has returned to discuss the controversy surrounding the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final, reaffirming his belief in his national team's perspective on the events, despite the match being officially awarded to the Moroccan team with a score of 3-0.

Mendy believes that the departure of Senegalese national team players from the pitch during the final does not mean that the match was incomplete, emphasizing that the encounter was completed until its end, which he relies on to explain what happened.

Edouard Mendy stated in remarks to the British newspaper 'Telegraph': 'The only thing we need to remember is that the match continued until the end. We left the pitch, but the match was completed. For me, there is no problem because the final match was completed.'

The former Senegalese goalkeeper added: "When you ask me about the Africa Cup of Nations, I will simply say: We have won the title twice, and there is no offense to the Moroccan people or anyone else in that, it is just our feeling."

Edouard Mendy has also addressed the issue related to the final result, which is still under discussion at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), stating that it should be resolved according to what he sees as logical based on previous events.

He said in this regard: "I am not a lawyer, but it is about common sense. You cannot change something that has already been decided."

The Confederation of African Football has confirmed the result of Morocco's 3-0 victory over Senegal in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final, following the events that occurred during the match and the departure of Senegalese players from the pitch before play resumed.

It is noted that Edouard Mendy sparked controversy during the final due to a gesture described as unethical towards Moroccan fans, without any punishment being issued against him by the disciplinary committee of the Confederation of African Football.
