Investigation into corruption allegations in Senegalese Football Federation elections

The corruption allegations surrounding the election of Abdoulaye Fall as president of the Senegalese Football Federation have resurfaced, following reports from the newspaper "L'Observateur" that the investigation into the case has been resumed. The urban police in Dakar are preparing to listen to several concerned officials.

According to the same source, police are expected to listen to Abdallah Fall, who is currently outside the capital, along with other officials, after the president of the federation was informed of his upcoming questioning next week.

The case dates back to a complaint filed by Mamadou Kanji, targeting Abdallah Fall and four other officials: Eliman Lam, Moussa Mbaye, Mustafa Betyi, and Niamby Diop, regarding allegations of vote buying and promises of undue benefits during the electoral process of the federation.

The public prosecution ordered an investigation to be opened in September 2025, following the circulation of audio recordings that allegedly contained information related to these accusations.

L'Observateur has reported that Mustapha Bity will be the first to undergo questioning next Monday, with sessions continuing throughout the week involving Abdallah Fall and several other officials.

The reopening of this file comes at a sensitive time for Senegalese football as the national team prepares for upcoming challenges under coach Patryck Vieira, while several previous issues continue to cast a shadow over the local football scene.

Among these files are the issues related to Patryck's contract and the financial grants during the FIFA World Cup 2026, before his departure following Senegal's exit from the competition, which has reignited the discussion about the management of the national team.

As the debate continues regarding the final of the Africa Cup of Nations 2025, the Appeals Committee of the Confederation of African Football has upheld the result of the match with Morocco winning 3-0. Meanwhile, Senegal continues to contest the implications of the decision, with plans to appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
