Trial of Sevilla fan accused of insulting Vinicius Junior postponed

The trial of a Sevilla fan accused of racially insulting Brazilian Vinicius Junior, a player for Real Madrid, during the match between the two teams in 2023 has been postponed to May 2027.

According to "Mundo Deportivo", the trial, which was scheduled for this morning at the regional court in Sevilla, has been postponed by agreement of the parties to May 13, 2027, at 11 AM Egyptian time.

This is the second postponement of the trial, which was originally scheduled to take place last April. The accused faces a request for a prison sentence of one year and nine months for committing a crime against moral integrity, following the racist insults directed at Vinicius Junior from the stands.

The public prosecutor's office stated that the accused directed insults and racist gestures towards Vinicius Junior between the 83rd and 86th minutes, which included mimicking monkey movements and repeatedly chanting the word 'monkey', along with making sounds that imitate the screams of that animal.

LaLiga has referred its complaint regarding the incident to the competitions committee of the Spanish Football Federation and the National Anti-Violence Committee, while Sevilla managed to identify the supporter and expelled him from the stadium, applying the club's regulations against him.
