From Jassim Yaqoub and Majed Abdullah to current stars, Gulf 27 reopens the memory book

The approach of the start of the 'Gulf Cup 27' brings back memories of stars who immortalized their names in the history of the tournament, led by Jassim Yaqoub, Majed Abdullah, Hussein Saeed, and Faisal Al-Dakhil, before Jeddah begins a new chapter.

Jeddah will host the tournament for the first time, starting from Wednesday, September 23, until the final on October 6, with the participation of 8 teams divided into two groups, amid public anticipation for what the new edition will offer.

Kuwaiti Jasem Yaqoub tops the all-time scoring archive of the tournament with 18 goals, having also been the top scorer in the 1974 and 1976 editions. He won titles with Iraq in 1972, 1974, and 1976.

Majed Abdullah's name resonates strongly in Saudi memory after scoring three goals in the FIFA World Cup 6 in 1982, while Iraqi Hussein Saeed was crowned top scorer of the FIFA World Cup 5 with ten goals.

Hussein Saeed returns to claim the top scorer title of the FIFA World Cup 7 in 1984 after scoring 6 goals, while he led Iraq to the title in the 1979 edition. Faisal Al-Dakhil remains a symbol of the golden generation of Kuwait.

Al-Dakhil won the Gulf Cup with Kuwait in 1976 and 1986, and participated in Gulf Cup 8 in 1984. He also appeared with his national team in the FIFA World Cup 1982 and scored Kuwait's goal against Czechoslovakia.

The Gulf 27 offers current stars a new opportunity to create memories, amid the development of Gulf football, the rise in the level of professionalism, and the growing public and media interest in the tournament.

The new edition will take place at King Abdullah Sports City and Prince Abdullah Al Faisal Stadium. Group A includes Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Iraq, and Oman, while Group B features Qatar, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, and Yemen.

Saudi Arabia will begin their campaign against Kuwait on September 23, in a match that brings together two teams with a long history in the tournament, while the question remains open: who will write their name in the Gulf memories?
