Bouzit: The goalkeeper who believed in his dream until he reached the French national team

Como goalkeeper Jean Buzit is experiencing an exceptional moment in his career, having received his first call-up to the French national team, becoming one of the most notable surprises in coach Zinedine Zidane's initial squad with "Les Bleus".

Bouzit, who is 31 years and three months old, received a surprise call-up after Lens goalkeeper Ruben Liser withdrew due to physical issues, with the Como goalkeeper stepping in to replace him in the French squad. This makes Bouzit the oldest player to be called up for the first time to the French national team since Gérard Farison in 1976, when the latter was 32 years and one month old.

Bouzit, born in Lille and developed at the French club's academy, did not play any official matches with Lille's first team before moving to Belgium, where he played for Mouscron and then shone with Royal Antwerp, making 170 appearances for the club. In January 2025, he transferred to Como, contributing to the team's qualification for the UEFA Champions League for the first time in its history.

Buzit has long believed in the possibility of reaching the national team, especially since last March when his name began to resonate strongly in the coaching staff's considerations. Despite not appearing in the initial squad announced by Zidane on September 18, after the coach chose Guillaume Rest instead of him, the opportunity came just a few days later following Reiser's injury.

Bouzit will join the French national team's camp in Clairefontaine alongside Mike Maignan and Guillaume Rest, becoming the sixth new player to join Zinedine Zidane's initial squad. The French national team is preparing to play four matches in the UEFA Nations League against Turkey, Belgium, Italy, and then Belgium again during the current international break.
