Spanish refereeing committee resolves controversy over 3 decisions in Madrid derby

The Technical Referees Committee in Spain (CAT) has clarified its stance on the most controversial refereeing situations that occurred during the Madrid derby between Real Madrid and Atlético Madrid, after reviewing the decisions that sparked widespread objections following the match.

According to the committee's conclusion, South Korean Kang In Lee deserved a red card and dismissal in one of the most controversial incidents during the match.

Regarding the incident involving Cristian Romero, the committee deemed that the offense could have warranted a red card, but at the same time considered that the situation was ambiguous, thus excusing referee Ortiz Arias for his decision during the match.

In contrast, the committee confirmed that the referee's decision to send off Dean Huysen with a red card was correct, considering that the decision made in this case aligns with the technical assessment of the incident.

The referees' committee's review of these cases comes amid the controversy surrounding the Madrid derby, which saw several officiating decisions spark widespread debate about the correctness of the decisions made during the match.
