Atlético win derby with two goals in LaLiga

Atlético secured a valuable victory against Real Madrid, winning 2-1 in the seventh round of LaLiga, in a match held at the Al Riyadh Metropolitano Stadium.

Atlético have moved up to 16 points, sitting second in the LaLiga table, five points behind leaders FC Barcelona. Meanwhile, Real Madrid remain on 15 points, temporarily dropping to third place.

The first half of the Madrid derby saw few clear chances, with Atlético dominating possession and control while creating attempts. Real Madrid appeared unconvincing, relying heavily on individual solutions without a clear organization in their attacking play.

Thibaut Courtois, the goalkeeper for Real Madrid, took on the task of saving his team from several dangerous opportunities during the first half, maintaining a clean sheet amid the pressure exerted by Atlético on the royal team's defense.

The first half also saw a refereeing controversy as Real Madrid players called for a red card for Romero after his challenge on Jude Bellingham, but the referee only issued a yellow card after reviewing the video technology.

In the second half, Real Madrid suffered further after Dean Huijsen was sent off in the 52nd minute, following a penalty awarded to Atlético after his challenge on Simeone inside the box.

Alejandro Grimaldo successfully converted a penalty, sending the ball into the net past Thibaut Courtois in the 53rd minute, giving Atlético the lead and putting Real Madrid in a difficult position after finishing the match with ten players.

The pressure from the home side did not relent, as Jonathan David managed to score the second goal for Atlético in the 59th minute, after receiving a cross from Simeone inside the penalty area, converting it into the net against Real Madrid.

Atlético came close to adding a third goal in the 65th minute, but Thibaut Courtois shone and saved Real Madrid from a certain goal, before Ibrahima Konaté intervened to clear the ball off the line, keeping the royal team's hopes alive of coming back into the match.

Real Madrid's struggles continued amid numerical disadvantage and relentless pressure from Atlético. Jan Oblak saved a powerful shot from Dean Huijsen in the 76th minute, before Antonio Rüdiger scored to reduce the deficit in the 89th minute, assisted by Silva, ending the match 2-1.
