The crisis arose after an interview Ratcliffe conducted with the BBC, during which he stated that the United Kingdom is "slipping back", considering that immigration and the welfare system are among the issues that need to be addressed more rigorously.

His statements have sparked angry reactions, especially as they came after previous controversy in February when he said that Britain was "colonised by immigrants", before later apologising for the wording of his remarks.

The Manchester United Muslim Supporters' Club has stated that recent comments are "deeply disappointing and completely unacceptable", emphasizing that the club represents people from various nationalities, cultures, races, religions, and backgrounds. The group added that this diversity is a fundamental part of Manchester United's identity, not a weakness.

The group's criticisms were not limited to Ratcliffe's statements; they also linked their position to what they described as years of decline and unfulfilled promises, alongside issues related to ticket prices, the state of Old Trafford, and the team's results. The group stated that they have lost faith in the current ownership structure of the club, demanding the departure of Ratcliffe and the Glazer family.

These developments come amid a tough start for Manchester United in the 2026-2027 season, having lost two of their first four matches in the Premier League. They also exited the EFL Cup in the first round against Brighton, which has intensified the criticism directed at the club's management.
