Real Madrid youth crowned Intercontinental Cup champions

Real Madrid has written a new chapter in the history of its academy by winning the Under-20 Intercontinental Cup, completing a historic quadruple that includes La Liga, the Champions Cup, the UEFA Youth League, and now the world title.

Real Madrid secured the title after an exciting match against Santiago Wanderers, winning 3-1.

The match saw a historic attendance, with 52,117 spectators filling the stands of the Santiago Bernabéu, marking the largest turnout in the history of the competition and for a youth match. Notably, José Mourinho, the head coach of Real Madrid's first team, was present in the stands to watch the encounter.

The attacking output of the Spanish team declined compared to the first half, prompting coach Álvaro López to make several changes in search of regaining control. It was then that Fran Santamaría emerged at a critical moment, as the young player capitalized on an attack that started from the right side, following a fine collaboration between Yañez and Fortia. The ball reached him inside the area, and he struck it like a clinical striker, announcing Real Madrid's lead once again, amidst an explosion of excitement from the fans in the Bernabéu stands.

The excitement didn't stop there, as the match turned into a fierce physical contest, with Santiago Wanderers finishing with eight players following a series of red cards. Meanwhile, Yañez missed a penalty that could have ended the match early.

In the dying moments, Roberto Martínez made a crucial impact, having returned to the pitch after suffering a heavy blow that forced him to bandage his head.
