Ronaldo and Chelsea: A deal wanted by Boehly but stopped by Tuchel
The Athletic has revealed that Todd Boehly, the former owner of Chelsea, sought to sign Cristiano Ronaldo during the summer of 2022, but Thomas Tuchel rejected the idea.
These details came as part of the newspaper's review of Boley's time with the English club, coinciding with the recent full ownership transfer of Chelsea to Clear Lake Capital.
Boehly, who was part of the consortium that took over Chelsea from Roman Abramovich in May 2022, has taken on the role of interim sporting director during the summer transfer window.
According to 'The Athletic', Boehly discussed with Ronaldo's agent, Jorge Mendes, the possibility of the Portuguese star moving to Chelsea amid his crisis with Manchester United.
Thomas Tuchel has clearly opposed the transfer, according to the newspaper, as the German coach expressed his refusal on more than one occasion, halting attempts to sign Ronaldo, who remained with Manchester United until the middle of the following season before leaving and later joining Al Nassr.
