Flick: We have goalkeepers with quality and experience, and Raphinha starts the press and everyone follows
Hans Flick, the head coach of FC Barcelona, discussed several team-related issues during the press conference ahead of the match against Sevilla in the seventh round of the Spanish league, touching on goalkeeping, Juan's situation, rotation, as well as Karim Adeyemi's level and Raphinha's role in the striker position.
Regarding the goalkeeping position, Flick said: "It is very important to have quality in this position. With Dominik, we have a very high-level goalkeeper. As for Szczęsny, when you look at the past, especially in the first season, we won the league with him and he was responsible for that. For me, it is important that we have goalkeepers with quality and experience."
He added about Szczęsny's mistake: "I said that after the match, we all make mistakes, and Szczęsny knows that. I spoke with him; from the first touch, he knew he was in trouble, and we hope that doesn't happen to him again. Szczęsny knows our philosophy and how we want to play."
He continued: "Dominik has just arrived and is adapting to our idea of playing football. If he is ready to play, that is what we need to think about. It is always about considering the best interests of the team. We are always analyzing the situation and thinking about what is best for the team."
Barcelona's coach clarified the situation regarding Juan García, stating: "We always decide together, when the doctors informed us of what he is suffering from, the injury was not very serious, but he needs rest, and we decided that he should have it."
Flick responded to a question about the goalkeeper who will participate against Sevilla: "You know that I never reveal the lineup we will play with, you have to wait until tomorrow."
Regarding the team's level, Flick said: "We work every day to maintain this level throughout the season, and recovery is very important, and we are doing that very well. We must continue with this approach in the coming weeks; this is the key point. We have many matches, and of course, we need to train, but we must think about recovery."
Regarding the possibility of making changes to the lineup, he said: "We will see about that, but of course there will be some changes, and that is natural, and we have to do that to manage the minutes. What I can say is that Kobarsi will play; it was important for him to get rest against Racing."
Flick praised Karim Adeyemi, saying: "He is very fast, I think Alphonso Davies is similar to him in terms of speed. Adeyemi is a good person and is highly respected in the dressing room, and the team loves him, especially since he arrived. With these performances, adapting becomes easier."
He added: "In Germany, he was not going through a good phase, and the best thing for him was to change and move to another country, and I am happy that he chose us. I know his quality and what he needs, which is care, and we will give him confidence. I am 100% convinced of him, and I hope we see many matches from him like the one on Wednesday."
Flick spoke about the match, stating: "We are at a different level than we were last season when we played in Sevilla. Every match starts with a score of 0-0, and Sevilla are very good at home. They will take us on one-on-one and will put pressure on us."
He added: "It will be very important to play with confidence, and of course it is important to control the match."
Flick said: "For us, the important thing is what we can do, and the best thing is to focus on ourselves. We want to win tomorrow, and that is the work we have to do in Sevilla."
Regarding the international break, Flick explained: "First, we have to play tomorrow in Sevilla, and then the break will come. Many players will go to their national teams, and whether that is good or not, it is something I cannot change."
He added: "Of course, we feel worried when players are away, but I trust in the national teams, I try to think positively, and when they return, we will have a few days to recover and focus on Getafe."
Regarding the atmosphere in the dressing room, he said: "It's not just about my work, but about the entire staff; the team feels a lot of positive energy, and there is a positive mentality with the coaches and the staff."
He added: "We are here to help the team reach the highest level, and I ask the same from the players; they must play well, sleep well, and recover properly."
He continued: "For me, we need to create a great atmosphere here for the players so they can recover quickly between matches, and that is what we need most here, and we must focus on it. I have to be honest, I am not happy with these matters; we started the process, but I am not 100% satisfied with the situation now. We always want the best from the players, but we need to find solutions to make things better."
Flick spoke about relying on Raphinha in the striker position, saying: "If you look at the last two seasons, we always start pressing with the number 9 striker, and he has an amazing ambition, along with the strength, mentality, and mindset needed to initiate the pressing we require, and he is at a very high level."
He added: "It's not just about scoring goals, but also about the defensive side; he is always the one who starts the defense and the pressing, and everyone participates. So when he says: I'm going, the others say, and I'm going too."
Flick concluded: "It's about all the players moving together, and he is the one who starts that, and as a captain, he leads and everyone follows him."
