Big predicament: Olympique Marseille suffers fourth consecutive defeat
Olympique Marseille suffered a heavy defeat against hosts Beşiktaş, losing 4-1 on Thursday evening in the first round of the Europa League. The French team continues to struggle with negative results just three days before facing Paris Saint-Germain in the Ligue 1 classic.
Marseille ended the first half level at 1-1, after Ilhan Faki opened the scoring for Beşiktaş in the 16th minute, before young Kylian Abdallah equalised in the 30th minute, benefiting from a pass from Himad Abdelli.
But the Turkish team settled the encounter in the second half, after Vatsislav Cherny scored the second goal in the 56th minute, then Amir Murillo, former Olympique Marseille player, added the third goal three minutes later, before Ernest Poku capped off Beşiktaş's four-goal haul in the 81st minute.
With this result, Olympique Marseille have suffered their fourth consecutive defeat across all competitions, following losses to AS Monaco, Paris FC, and Rennes in Ligue 1. The team will face a tough test when they host Paris Saint-Germain on Sunday in the clasico.
