Mamelodi Sundowns have suffered a major blow ahead of their upcoming clash against Al-Ahli, as it has been confirmed that three of their new signings will miss the match scheduled for this Saturday, as part of the second round of the Intercontinental Cup.

Mamelodi Sundowns FC, the African champions, host Al-Ahli, the reigning champions of the AFC Champions League, in a match where both teams are looking to secure a place in the semi-finals of the tournament.

Mamelodi Sundowns FC submitted a squad of 35 players for the match, but FIFA rejected the registration of 3 players due to their late arrival to the team.

Dino van Rooyen, Thabang Matlodi, and Thabo Cele have been excluded from the squad after the South African club completed their signing following the closure of the registration window for the match.

FIFA set September 5 as the final deadline for submitting lists, but Mamelodi Sundowns FC completed their three signings after the deadline.

Thabang Matladi, aged 27, has joined Mamelodi Sundowns FC from Polokwane City, while the club has signed midfielder Thabo Cele from Kaizer Chiefs.

Mamelodi Sundowns FC have strengthened their squad with right-back Dino van Rooyen, who has joined the team from Orlando Pirates.

Thus, the new trio will not be able to participate against Al-Ahli, in the match where the Saudi team is looking to continue its journey in the Intercontinental Cup and qualify for the semi-finals for the first time, after finishing its participation in the last edition with a loss to Pyramids, the African champion.
