Mohamed Wahbi settles the debate over Amrabat and Zaalzouli and reveals his stance on Maamma
Mohamed Wahbi, the head coach of the Moroccan national team, discussed several controversial issues recently, clarifying his position on Sofyan Amrabat and Abdessamad Ezzalzouli, along with the reasons for Othmane Maamma's absence from the squad.
During the press conference he held, Wahbi emphasized the importance of maintaining team unity, confirming that selections depend on competition and technical readiness, away from any other considerations.
Regarding Sofyan Amrabat, the head coach of the Moroccan national team confirmed that the player has given a lot to the team, emphasizing the need to appreciate what he has done over the past years and not to overlook his previous contributions.
Walid Regragui explained that he understands Sofyan Amrabat's feelings after his reduced appearances, but he also pointed out that the Moroccan national team is going through a new phase, with new players emerging in midfield, which increases competition for places.
The head coach stated that there is no guaranteed place for any player in the Moroccan national team, explaining that selections are made based on what the coaching staff deems appropriate for the benefit of the team.
Wahbi denied any personal conflict with Sofyan Amrabat, emphasizing that their relationship is good and that it relates to tactical choices and competition within the national team.
The Moroccan national team coach also spoke about Abdessamad Ezzalzouli's situation amid the controversy surrounding the player in recent times.
Wahbi confirmed that the speculation surrounding the player is merely a misunderstanding, denying that the incident is related to any doubts about his patriotism or commitment to the Moroccan national team.
He said in this regard: "What happened with Zalsouli was just a misunderstanding, and no one can question his patriotism."
The head coach emphasized that Zaldú is still an important player for the national team, asserting that what happened should not be exaggerated.
He added that the relationship between players and the national team is based on communication and trust, and that such situations can be overcome through dialogue, away from interpretations that may open unnecessary discussions about the players.
Regarding Othmane Maamma's absence, Mohamed Wahbi confirmed that the young player's non-selection does not mean he is out of his plans, pointing out that his position is experiencing strong competition due to the presence of a large number of outstanding players.
Wahbi commented: "Othmane Maamma's position includes a large number of players, and there is strong competition in the same position, and we are monitoring him."
The coach's statements reflect the level of competition within the Moroccan national team, particularly in positions where there are many options. The final decision depends on the players' readiness and their performances with their clubs.
In discussing the raised issues, Mohamed Wahbi stressed the importance of supporting players and not turning sports matters into other topics, affirming that football should remain free from political tensions.
The head coach emphasized that the interests and unity of the Moroccan national team must be a top priority, calling for the handling of various issues with a spirit of communication and trust, in order to maintain the stability of the team.
