SL Benfica stun AC Milan with two goals in UEFA Europa League opener
AC Milan suffered a heavy blow in their UEFA Europa League campaign, losing 2-0 at home to SL Benfica during the match that took place on Wednesday evening at San Siro, in the first round of the group stage of the competition.
SL Benfica took the lead in the 16th minute through Belgian Dodi Lukebakio, who received the ball from Jakub Kaminski before entering the penalty area and firing a precise shot that settled into the far corner of Mike Maignan's goal, giving the Portuguese side an early advantage.
With the start of the second half, Benfica succeeded in doubling their lead in the 54th minute through Jakub Kaminski, who received a pass from Sofiane Kharoubi inside the area, unleashing a powerful shot into the roof of the net and putting AC Milan in a difficult position.
AC Milan tried to come back in the score during the remaining minutes, as they wasted several chances and SL Benfica's Anatoliy Trubin managed to save more than one attempt. However, the hosts failed to find the net, and the match ended with a 2-0 victory for Benfica, marking a disappointing European start for Milan under Ruben Amorim.
