Marisca: Foden's absence is significant, and this is Doku's situation
Enzo Maresca, the manager of Manchester City, has stated that Phil Foden's absence due to suspension will be significant for the team, noting that the player had been performing well recently before being sent off in the derby match against Manchester United.
Mariska said: "His absence is very impactful, as he was performing well. He started quite well against Manchester United, during the minutes he participated in," referring to the minutes Foden played before receiving the red card.
Phil Foden will miss Manchester City's match against Norwich City in the EFL Cup, followed by the game against Sunderland in the Premier League, before concluding his suspension by missing the match against Liverpool after the international break.
Mariska added regarding the player's return: "He will miss tomorrow's match, Sunderland, and Liverpool, before returning," meaning Manchester City will lose one of their important attacking elements for three matches before he regains fitness after the suspension period.
Mariska has revealed that Jérémy Doku is nearing a return, but he did not confirm whether the Belgian player will be ready for the match in the Carabao Cup against Norwich City on Thursday.
The coach stated: "He is very close" referring to the player's return from the injury he is suffering from.
