16 AS Roma fans banned from stadiums for fascist salutes

Italian police have banned 16 AS Roma fans from entering stadiums after they performed fascist salutes during the match against Atalanta, which took place on September 5 at the Stadio Olimpico and ended in a 2-1 victory for AS Roma.

Romanian police have clarified that penalties range from one to five years and apply to all matches held on Italian soil, as well as matches involving AS Roma and the Italian national team abroad. Additionally, four of the sixteen fans have been required to report to the police station during matches of the capital team.

An incident occurred in the southern stand 'Curva Sud', known for being the section reserved for AS Roma's most passionate fans, where supporters were seen performing fascist salutes with outstretched arms.

According to Reuters, Italian prosecutors have previously identified links between some ultra groups and far-right networks and organized crime, at a time when the phenomenon of racism and extremism within some Italian stadiums remains a concern for the authorities.
