Bayern Münich extends contract of sporting director Christoph Freund until 2029
Bayern Munich have announced the extension of sporting director Christoph Freund's contract until June 30, 2029, allowing the Austrian to continue his role within the Bavarian club's sporting management in the coming years.
Froind, 49, has joined Bayern Münich in the summer of 2023 from Red Bull Salzburg after spending 17 years in the sporting management of the Austrian club. During his time with Bayern, the team won two Bundesliga titles, the DFB-Pokal, and the DFL-Supercup twice.
Bayern Munich's CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen has stated that Freund plays a 'pivotal role in all sporting decisions', noting that the club is satisfied with his continuation and confirming that his work has contributed to the successes the team has achieved in recent years.
Max Eberl, the board member for sporting affairs, has praised Freund, confirming that he represents a 'key figure' in the club's sporting sector, from the first team and coaching staff to the Bayern Münich academy. Freund expressed his happiness to continue working with the club, stating that there is 'much to be achieved' in the upcoming phase.
