Mariska: We have been waiting for an apology from the referees' committee since 2023!

Enzo Maresca, the manager of Manchester City, has reopened the debate regarding refereeing errors and the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) technology, after confirming that Manchester City is still waiting for an apology for a refereeing mistake that took place during the Manchester Derby in 2023.

Mariska pointed out that he experienced a similar situation during his time on the coaching staff of Manchester City, citing Bruno's goal in the 2023 derby, which was awarded despite Marcus Rashford being in an offside position and influencing the course of the attack.

Manchester City benefited from a major refereeing error over the weekend, as the video assistant referee failed to check Enzo Fernández's position and whether he was offside during Erling Haaland's winning goal against Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Mariska said in his remarks: "Three years ago, when I was here, the same thing happened. We lost the derby, and the goal was not valid, if you remember. And honestly, no one has apologized to us, and we are still waiting for an apology."

He added: "Simply put, we can acknowledge that a mistake happened, and that's all there is to it. I think sometimes things go in your favor and sometimes against you."

In another context, Manchester City are preparing to face Norwich City on Thursday in the EFL Cup, in a match that will not see the use of Video Assistant Referee (VAR) technology at this stage of the competition.
