Al-Nassr lose to Al-Ain by four goals in opening match of AFC Champions League Elite
Al-Nassr suffered a heavy defeat against Al-Ain, losing four goals to nil in their opening match of the AFC Champions League Elite 2026-2027 on Tuesday evening.
Both teams started the match with exchanged attempts, and Al-Ain came close to breaking the deadlock in the 13th minute, but Al-Nassr's defense intervened in front of Valentino Lazaro's shot after a pass from Soufiane Rahimi.
Al-Nassr had a dangerous attempt four minutes later when Iñigo Martínez rose to meet a João Félix cross, but Al-Ain's goalkeeper managed to deflect the header.
Soufiane Rahimi missed a chance to open the scoring for Al-Ain in the 20th minute, as he shot from inside the penalty area, but the ball went over the crossbar without threatening the net of Al-Nassr.
Soufiane Rahimi opened the scoring for Al-Ain in the 25th minute, capitalising on a mistake made by Saad Al-Nasser, before breaking free of the Al-Nasr goalkeeper and slotting the ball into the net with a low shot.
Al-Nassr attempted to equalise before the break, with João Félix shooting from inside the area in the 37th minute, before Al-Ain's defence intervened to clear the danger from their goal.
Mohamed Simakan missed another chance for victory after just one minute, meeting a cross from João Félix from a corner with a header, but it went over the home team's goal.
Al-Ain applied pressure early in the second half, with Soufiane Rahimi nearly doubling the lead in the 50th minute, but Al-Nassr's defense blocked his shot following a pass from Yahya Benkhaleq.
Soufiane Rahimi made a return to the penalty area in the 60th minute, capitalising on a cross from Yahya Benkhaleq, but the Al-Nassr goalkeeper saved his attempt and temporarily kept his team's hopes alive.
Soufiane Rahimi scored his second goal in the 63rd minute, after receiving the ball inside the penalty area and unleashing a right-footed shot, extending the lead in favor of Al-Ain.
Soufiane Rahimi deepened Al-Nassr's wounds in the 73rd minute, when he added the third goal for Al-Ain with a shot from the left side of the penalty area, making the task for the Saudi team even more difficult.
Georgios Giakoumakis capped off Al-Ain's goal fest in the 84th minute, taking advantage of a counter-attack and shooting from inside the penalty area to score the fourth goal against Al-Nassr.
With this loss, Al-Nassr began their journey in the AFC Champions League Elite 2026-2027 in a difficult manner, after falling to a four-goal defeat against Al-Ain away from home.
