RC Lens decide to sack Dino Toppmöller after 4 matches

RC Lens have decided to part ways with their German coach Dino Topmüller after just four matches into the Ligue 1 season, according to French newspaper L'Équipe.

According to the same source, Topmüller will not lead the team during the upcoming match against AS Monaco, in a surprising decision from the club's management, despite the German coach having taken over the role last June with a contract extending until 2028.

The decision came after a rocky start for Lens in the league, having lost to Strasbourg and Lorient, before drawing 2-2 with Le Mans in the fourth round, while achieving a notable victory in the UEFA Champions League against Slavia Prague with a score of 3-2.

Philippe Montanier had joined RC Lens following Pierre Sagnol, after an exceptional season for the team that ended in second place in Ligue 1, alongside winning the Coupe de France. However, the early results of the new season prompted the management to make a swift decision to end his tenure.
