Edo joins Levski Sofia after a week of leaving Nottingham Forest

Levski Sofia, the Bulgarian league champions, have announced the appointment of Brazilian Edu Gaspar to the club's board, just a week after he ended his contract with Nottingham Forest, where he held the position of Head of Global Football.

Edo, aged 48, has joined Nottingham Forest in July 2025 after five years at Arsenal, including two years as sporting director, having previously held the position of technical director at the London club.

Edu's responsibilities at Nottingham Forest extended beyond the first team, as his role included working across the clubs owned by the club's owner Evangelos Marinakis, primarily Olympiacos and Rio Ave. However, his experience at Nottingham Forest did not last as expected, before his contract was officially terminated last week.

The Athletic has confirmed that Edu has not attended any Nottingham Forest matches since February, when the team faced Liverpool at the City Ground. It noted that his departure had been expected for some time, as the club had already begun a new phase under the management of Oliver Glasner.

Levski Sofia have not disclosed the exact position that Edo will hold within the club, but he has become one of five new members of the board. The club explained that his experience in sports strategy, talent selection and development, and building institutions will be an important addition to Levski's efforts to create a sustainable and competitive football structure.

Edo joins Levski after a historic season for the club, during which they won the Bulgarian league title, ending Ludogorets' dominance that had lasted for 14 consecutive titles, the longest such streak in the history of domestic league competitions.
